About This Tour

Your own jungle secret

Close to the Afobaka dam, hidden from every tourist map, a cold-water waterfall tumbles through ancient jungle into a natural rock pool. The water is fed by deep forest streams and stays refreshingly cool even on the hottest days.

This is not a tour you find in a travel agency window. We take you there by car, then by traditional boat across the Brokopondo reservoir — and on foot through real jungle. No crowds, no fences, no signs.

Along the way, we stop at a completely deserted island in the middle of the lake for a swim. You may well be the only people there all day. Then the waterfall. Then a freshly prepared Surinamese lunch before the boat ride back.

Your Day, Step by Step

8:00
Departure from Paramaribo
We pick you up at an agreed central point. Settle in for a ~2 hour scenic drive south through the heart of Suriname, past villages and thickening jungle. Light breakfast snack provided en route.
10:00
Afobaka Dam
Arrive at the iconic Afobaka hydroelectric dam and the vast Brokopondo reservoir. Brief stop to take in the views and hear the story of the lake beneath.
📸 Photo stop at the dam
10:30
Board the Boat
Step into a traditional motorized boat and head out across the glittering Brokopondo reservoir. Glide past submerged treetops and the endless jungle horizon — 40 minutes of pure Suriname.
11:15
🌿 Secret Waterfall Trek
Follow your local guide into jungle that sees very few outsiders. The trail winds through dense tropical forest. You'll hear the waterfall before you see it — cold, clear water cascading over rocks into a natural pool. Swim, cool off, take it all in.
💦 Cold water — refreshing after the jungle hike. Bring swimwear!
13:00
🏝️ Swim Stop — Deserted Island
After the waterfall, the boat takes you to a small, completely uninhabited island in the middle of the reservoir. Jump in for a swim in the warm, still lake water. No one else around — just water, jungle, and sky.
🌊 You'll likely have this island entirely to yourselves
14:00
🍽️ Traditional Surinamese Lunch
A freshly prepared Surinamese meal — hearty, local, and delicious. Eat by the water and let the day settle in around you.
15:30
